Games For the Whole Family

Seniors playing video games? Really? In my family, my grandparents have always criticized us kids for playing video games. This year, in my family, everything has changed. The whole game playing teens issue has taken a turn in the 21st century and now all the old people are getting in on all the game action and loving it big time. We've all been playing video games together, ever since my parents bought us a Wii. It was my Moms' idea to let Gramps and Gramma try the Wii controller; she thought it might entertain them now that they can't get out very much. I thought 'yeah RIGHT', but my Mom turned out to be right just this one time. If you are thinking of buying a new Nintendo Wii, or Wii Music, Wii Mario Kart or Wii Fit for your grandparents in your family for Christmas this year, then you should definitely go for it. The new Wii games, especially Wii Music and Wii MarioKart Race, will bring everybody to the game play zone; little little kids, bigger kids, parents, teens and Gramps & Gramma too. Playing Wii with the whole family on Christmas is a whole new way to spend some of the big day with the old, the young & the middle aged all engaged in the same fun activity. Over the last few months, my siblings & I have had a total blast playing Wii Sports & Wii Fit & Wii MarioKart on a Kart Race Wheel with my 88 year old grandparents. What has really brought us together is that they are just like us kids; fighting and getting P.O'd at each other, duking it out bad on the Wii boxing game. OMG! It is so funny. I think that playing Wii with Gramps and Gramma have made us see how crazy it is for us to get all undone about the stuff we get all undone about. These days, my family doesn't take fights seriously because we can't help but be reminded of how funny the old people looked, scrapping over the Wii boxing game or the Wii bowling score final. Comedy beats out anger somehow. Will I be able to apply this to the real world I'm about to fly off into? The really awesome thing about playing Wii with my grandparents is that they REALLY GET my brothers and sisters and I and why we always play our video games so much. Before they learned to play Wii, the parents and grandparents always complained about our gaming ways. Not so much anymore! Now the whole family is a bunch of chronic Wii players and we spend hours playing together. My Wii playing family just seems to function better now that we all play Wii games together, learn new cheats and strategies, and laugh at each other together about the bickering. I guess this is what a great family looks like in this new day! So, if your family is all out of ideas for how to get along with each other, then I recommend inviting the older people to come and join in the fun. This year, for Christmas, we are buying the new Wii Music game for the seniors. My sister & I think it might be less contentious for them to make Wii music together as opposed to bashing each other around with the boxing. Maybe on boxing day we'll let them box. After all, it is a healthy non hurtful way to release excess energy and irritability, for us all. Have a Great family holiday everybody! |
